Slavery
God Damn America!!!
That's how we were introduced to the pastor chosen by Barak and Michelle Obama to officiate at their wedding and baptize their daughters.
It was't until some time had passed, when we realized that the Obamas see everything through the prism of skin color. It's a dark prism. It's a debilitating prism.
Pastor Martin Luther King, Jr. preached a different sermon. He saw everything through the prism of hope. He dreamed.
Why did the Obamas choose Jeremiah Wright instead of Martin Luther King Jr.? Were there childhood factors? Were there other factors? Was it slavery alone? It's complicated.
The Obamas merely are two among millions, who see through the same prism. Some say they do, and do. Some say they don't, and do. It's more complicated than complicated.
Slavery is sin. It's sin that eats at a human's core, and doesn't stop eating. It's sin that is beyond description, beyond explanation. It's victims are everybody.
It's friends are the friends of Jeremiah Wright. It's enemies are the friends of Martin Luther King Jr.
May the day soon come when we all join hands singing God Bless America, instead of God Damn America. When we all preach unity, and mean it. When all we love, instead of hate. When we all refuse to be victims of the sin of slavery.
